SiTF launches Android training course

ANDROID developers in Singapore are set to benefit from a new training programme launched by International SQL Star and the Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF).

International SQL Star, a global IT services company with a presence here, has taken 'hundreds' of engineers through the Embedded Android Development Training course in India and the United States.

Participants will be able to apply to the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) for funding support through the IDA's Critical Infocomm Technology Resource Programme (Citrep).

Citrep will provide up to 80 per cent of the course fees or $3,000 per trainee, whichever is lower.

C K Narayanan, International SQL Star's regional head of Asia-Pacific, said there is a lot of interest in Android from the electronics and manufacturing industry, particularly in exploring the use of Android in devices.

'The Android training and mentoring services seem to be popular in this region and there has been an overwhelming response from the industry,' he said.

SiTF executive director Ho Se Mun said the trade association sees the tie-up as an opportunity to expand its industry training efforts, especially in spreading Android more widely.

She said such efforts are aimed at helping the young developer community towards entrepreneurial opportunities.
